Increasing Sport Participation Using National Physical Activity Plan Strategies and Intentional Sports-Based Youth Development 

With rising levels of inactivity gripping today’s youth, and many recreation programs struggling with dwindling participation, Dr. Amy Bantham and Dr. Anne Larson will delve into these disturbing trends and provide actionable steps for bolstering engagement and appreciation of community sports programming. These renowned experts will examine alarming trends in youth sports participation, as outlined in the Physical Activity Alliance 2024 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, look at the implications for the future, and share strategies and tactics for increasing youth sports participation. Plus, attendees will learn how they can activate intentional sports-based youth development in their programs as well as the importance of helping youth recognize the unique life-optimizing outcomes that accompany competing.
